The final month of preparation before Ramadan. The Prophet Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam fasted abundantly in this month as physical and spiritual preparation.
The Prophet Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam would fast until we thought he would not break his fast, and he would not fast until we thought he would not fast. I never saw the Messenger of Allah Shallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam fast more in any month than he did in Sha'ban. (Sahih Bukhari & Muslim)
O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become righteous. (Quran 2:183)
